When I first began writing Little Sparrows of Hope, it wasn’t
simply about creating a book — it was about sharing a
journey. A journey through grief, healing, and the unexpected
paths that lead us back to hope.
For me, writing has been both a lifeline and a compass. There were days when words poured easily, carrying my heart with them. And there were days when it was hard to put pen to paper at all. But over time, I discovered that storytelling — my own and others’ — is one of the most powerful ways to feel less alone.
The little sparrows became a symbol: small, yet brave; fragile, yet capable of finding strength in the storm. Through them, I wanted to create something that could sit quietly in someone’s home and still whisper, You are not alone in this.
Rooted in Resilience
Strength doesn’t always look like charging ahead. Sometimes, it looks like staying put — rooted — while life’s winds pass over you. Like a tree, we can be grounded in gratitude, draw on deep roots of resilience, and still keep growing. This is the quiet, steady strength I’ve come to value most. It doesn’t always shout. It doesn’t always look fierce. But it’s the kind of strength that lasts
I Am the Storm
One of my favourite pieces of artwork is my I Am the Storm image.
I don’t always feel like that — but when I do, it feels incredible.
And I think that’s the point: we don’t have to feel strong all the
time. Strength can come in waves, just like the tide.
What matters is knowing it’s there within us, ready
to rise when we need it.
If you’re walking through your own season of loss or change,
may you find moments where you feel deeply rooted, times
where you stand strong against the storm, and quiet days
where you simply rest and allow yourself to grow.
With warmth,
Joanne
